Welcome to the OMS/OBJH 6-8 grades athletic program. We are excited to have your child be a part of the program. To get their experience started in the right direction we ask that you take time to carefully read all of the information below. We want to be sure your son or daughter meets all eligibility standards and can be properly cleared to participate in the fall sport season. The registration form, physical exam form and emergency contact form must be filled out completely to be accepted. You are always welcome to contact our athletic department at 360-432-2147 if you have questions.

7/8 wrestling starts week of October 23rd.  Note: provided we have a coach.

6/8 boys basketball starts October 30th.

School Sport Opportunities for Grades 6-8: (This is different and separate from the "intramurals" offered at OMS)

The 2017-18 competitive sports opportunity for 6th-8th graders is as follows:  

  • Season 1     Girls Volleyball
  • Season 2     Boys Basketball
  • Season 3     Girls Basketball
  • Season 4     Boys and Girls Track

Two program levels will be offered, an 8th grade level and a combined 6th / 7th grade level.  Additionally, in volleyball and basketball A & B teams will be available at each program level.

Sports Registration Process for Grades 6-8:
Before a student can begin to participate in the competitive sports program they need to complete the registration process which includes

  • providing a copy of a current sports physical
  • purchasing an ASB card
  • filling all academic requirements
  • properly completing all athletic registration forms

Registration paperwork will be available on the District website or for pick up in our main office starting Monday, August 23rd.  Completed paperwork may be turned in from September 7-10 during regular business hours.  At the Open House on September 1st a representative from the District’s athletic department will be present to address questions regarding the registration process. 

Sports Participation Fee for Grades 6-8:
All student athletes that participate in extra-curricular athletics at Shelton High School, Oakland Bay Junior High, or Olympic Middle School will need to purchase an ASB card from their school. The separate athletic, or Pay to Play fee has been suspended for the 2017-18 school year.  Students will still need to purchase their school's ASB card to play a sport.

Required Sports Physical for Grades 6-8:
All student athletes playing a school sport are required to have a current sport physical on file.  Physicals are good for 24 months.  If you do not have a current physical, or it will expire before the end of sport season, you will need to obtain an updated physical from your doctor.  You may either have your family physician perform the sport physical or utilize one of the following options.  

Option A: The Healthcare Center (426-9717), corner of 8th and Railroad

Option B: Oakland Bay Pediatrics (426-3102) or Mason General Hospital Family Health (426-3862) offer a sports physical.  Medical coupons are accepted and families that are eligible for medical coupons through DSHS can receive assistance from either clinic in signing up for the coupons. Call their office for an appointment.
